Safety and help
What NaborJobs does to keep neighbors safe, what is different when the person helping is a kid, and just as importantly what it does not do.
Is someone in danger right now? Call 911 first.
Then tell us. A person on our team reads every report.
How it’s set up
- Everybody proves where they liveHiring, lending and listing all wait on a confirmed address: you stand at it with your phone, or match a card to it. It is the one thing nobody skips, and it is why a street is the people on it rather than whoever found the page.
- A parent approves every job a kid takesNot the first one, every one. A kid cannot accept work on their own unless their parent has explicitly set their account that way, and even then the parent is told.
- An address is never publishedWhat anyone sees is a block, like Maple & 4th, whoever they are. The street number goes to the person doing the work at the moment the job is approved, and to their approving parent where that person is a kid. Nobody else, ever.
- Nobody under 13 has an accountWe ask for a date of birth before anything else, and under 13 is a hard stop. A younger kid can still work, on a listing their parent owns and runs.
- A kid’s messages are read by a parentEvery thread with a kid is visible to the parents on their account. That is stated to the neighbor before they send anything.
- A kid is never told aloneAnything about approvals, money or safety reaches a parent on the same send. There is no message a child gets that an adult does not.
What NaborJobs does not cover
NaborJobs is a place to find each other and write things down. It is not an insurer and it is not a party to the work. Damage and injury sit between the two households, and a homeowner's policy is the thing that covers a mower through a window.
What we do not do
- We do not insure the work, the tools, the property or the people.
- We do not hold the money, so we cannot refund it or take it back.
- We do not vet, screen or background check anyone, and we do not run the job.
- We do not decide who was at fault when two households disagree.
What we do
- We pass your report to both parents the same day, in your words.
- We hold an account when a kid may be at risk, before anyone has decided anything.
- We hand both sides the full record: the messages, the agreed price, and what each of you said about payment.
- We answer, and we tell you what we did.
